The Recipe How-To

Now that we have all our ingredients ready, it’s time to get cooking! Here’s how I make my Cubed Chicken with Coffee Sauce.

Step 1: Cook the chicken

Firstly, preheat your pan over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan and let it melt. Once melted, add the cubed chicken thighs with skin removed and cook for about 10 minutes or until they start to turn golden brown.

Tip: Make sure that you don’t overcrowd the pan as it will result in steaming rather than frying, which can affect the texture of the chicken.

Step 2: Make the coffee sauce

While the chicken is cooking, let’s make our coffee sauce! In another pan over medium heat, add in 50 grams of butter and melt it. Once melted, add in 4 finely sliced garlic cloves and sauté for about a minute until fragrant.

Next, pour in 150 ml of white wine and 150 ml of filter coffee. Add in a sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste along with a small piece of bay leaf and some chopped up red chilies for spice. Let everything simmer for around 5 minutes.

Tip: If you can get your hands on some cocoa-rich Sao Tome coffee beans, use them to make this sauce as they provide a unique flavor profile.

Step 3: Combine everything together

Once your chicken has cooked through and turns golden brown, pour your coffee sauce into the same pan as your chicken. Allow it to simmer and reduce for another 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Tip: If you like an even thicker sauce, try adding a tablespoon of cornstarch dissolved in water to thicken it further.

Step 4: Serve and enjoy!

Finally, once everything is done cooking, it’s time to serve up this delicious dish! I like to garnish mine with some chopped parsley or sesame seeds. This recipe pairs well with creamy mashed potatoes or a side salad for a healthier option.

That concludes my recipe how-to for Cubed Chicken with Coffee Sauce. I guarantee whoever tastes this dish will be impressed by its unique flavors!

Substitutions and Variations

Just like any recipe, this cubed chicken with coffee sauce recipe can be customized according to your preferences. Here are some substitutions and variations that you can try:

1. Meat: If you don’t have chicken thighs, you can use chicken breast instead. You can also use cubed beef or pork for a heartier dish.

2. Sauce: While the coffee sauce is the star of this dish, you can switch things up by using a barbecue or mole sauce instead. For a creamier flavor, try making a mustard sauce or honey garlic chicken breast.

3. Spice: To add more kick to this recipe, you can increase the amount of red chilies or add some smoked paprika or cayenne pepper. Alternatively, if you prefer less spice, skip the red chilies altogether.

4. Coffee: If you don’t have filter coffee on hand, you can use instant coffee or espresso powder instead. You can also experiment with different types of coffee beans for a different flavor profile.

5. Wine: If white wine is not your thing, you can use red wine instead or omit it completely.

6. Serving suggestions: While this recipe is delicious on its own, you can pair it with different sides to make it a complete meal. Some great options include stir-fry vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes, or sautéed mushrooms.

Remember that cooking is all about trial and error – feel free to experiment with these substitutions and variations to find what works best for you!

Serving and Pairing

Now that you’ve cooked up a delicious and succulent batch of cubed chicken with coffee sauce, it’s time to think about how to serve and pair this tasty dish.

To start off, you can serve the cubed chicken with coffee sauce over a bed of fluffy white rice, which will absorb the rich and flavorful sauce. Alternatively, you could also try pairing the dish with some roasted vegetables, such as carrots or sweet potatoes, to add some texture and color to the plate.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also opt for some crusty bread on the side, which will help sop up any remaining sauce on your plate. Just be sure to toast it lightly before serving to bring out its nutty flavor.

When it comes to pairing drinks with this dish, you’ll want to choose something bold enough to stand up to the strong coffee flavors in the sauce. A full-bodied red wine like Cabernet Sauvignon or Malbec would be an excellent choice, or you could try a dark beer like a stout or porter. For non-alcoholic options, try a cold glass of iced tea or even a fruit-forward smoothie.

No matter how you choose to serve and pair your cubed chicken with coffee sauce, one thing is certain – this recipe is sure to impress your dinner guests and leave them asking for seconds.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

One of the great things about this recipe for cubed chicken with coffee sauce is that it can easily be made ahead of time, stored and reheated while still maintaining its delicious flavor. If you’re planning on entertaining guests, or just want to be prepared for busy weeknights, it’s definitely worth considering making a double batch to store in the fridge or freezer for later use.

To make sure your cubed chicken stays fresh and flavorful, I recommend letting the dish cool down completely before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When properly stored, your dish can last up to 3-4 days.

If you want to store your chicken in the freezer for even longer shelf life (up to 2-3 months), transfer it into a freezer-safe container instead. Just remember to thaw it in the fridge for at least 24 hours before reheating.

When reheating your cubed chicken, there are different methods that you can use depending on how much time you have. For a quick and easy option, you can microwave it for approximately 1 minute, stirring every 20 seconds or so. However, if you have more time and desire optimal results, I highly recommend reheating it in the oven since this method will help retain its texture and flavor better.

To reheat your cubed chicken in the oven, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) then place it into an oven-proof dish that has been greased lightly with oil. Drizzle some extra coffee sauce over the top of the chicken and cover with foil. Bake in the preheated oven for around 15 minutes (less if using chicken breast instead of thighs) until heated through but not dry, then remove from the oven and top with fresh herbs or sesame seeds (optional).

By following these simple tips and tricks, you’ll be able to enjoy delicious and flavorful cubed chicken with coffee sauce at any moment – whether it’s freshly cooked or reheated!

Tips for Perfect Results

If you want to impress your guests with the perfect chicken and coffee sauce dish, it’s essential to pay attention to some key tips. As a barista with years of experience, let me share with you some expert advice on how to achieve the best results.

1. Don’t Overcook the Chicken

Make sure not to overcook the cubed chicken, as it can become dry and tough. Instead, cook it just until it’s no longer pink inside. You can test this by cutting into one of the bigger pieces to make sure there are no raw spots left.

2. Use High-Quality Ingredients

To make this dish even more exceptional, choose high-quality ingredients. It’s especially essential when it comes to coffee beans since they will be a significant flavor contributor in the coffee sauce recipe. If possible, go for specialty coffee beans, such as Sao Tome or Principe Link Post coffee beans.

3. Adjust Spices According to Your Taste Preference

The recipe calls for red chilies, cumin seed, salt, and pepper. However, feel free to adjust these spices based on your taste preference. If you prefer mild taste, then use less of the chili flakes; if you want more heat, add an extra pinch.

4. Let the Sauce Simmer for a While

When making the coffee sauce recipe, after adding coffee and white wine into the pan with garlic and butter, let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally. This lets all the flavors blend and develop fully, resulting in a more delightsome sauce.

5. Use Skinless or Boneless Chicken Breast

Although chicken thighs can provide depth of flavor because of its fat content, skinless or boneless chicken breast is another great option for this dish if you want a lighter meal. Just make sure that you don’t overcook them and that they remain tender and juicy.

By following these tips for perfect results, you’ll end up with an addictive combination of savory and caffeinated flavors that will leave you craving more.
