Step 1: Gather the ingredients

Before we get started, let’s make sure you have everything you need on hand. For this recipe, you will need:

  • 2 cups Bisquick mix
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

In addition to the above, here are a few optional ingredients to add some extra flavor and texture:

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, pecans or other nuts
  • 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Make sure you also have a medium bowl, whisk and a loaf pan ready.

Step 2: Mix it up

Start by whisking together the Bisquick mix, sugar, baking powder and baking soda in a medium bowl. Add in the softened butter and mix until crumbly.

Next, beat in the eggs and sour cream until well combined. If you want to add any of those optional ingredients mentioned earlier (nuts, raisins, etc.), stir them in now.

Step 3: Layer it up

In a separate bowl, mix together the cinnamon and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Set this mixture aside for now.

Pour half of the cake batter into a greased loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter over top of the cinnamon-sugar layer, and then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.

Step 4: Bake & Enjoy!

Bake your coffee cake at 350°F for about 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Once it’s done baking, allow your delicious creation to cool before serving. It’s perfect with a cup of coffee for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Pro Tip: If you’re feeling adventurous or want to mix things up a bit, try using this recipe as a base and adding different flavors or textures. You could swap out some of the flour with cocoa powder for a chocolate version or try adding fresh fruit like blueberries or diced apples. Have fun with it!

I know that not everyone will have every single ingredient on hand when they feel the urge to bake a coffee cake. Fear not! Here are some substitutions and variations for this deluxe Bisquick sour cream coffee cake recipe that I love to use when I’m feeling creative or low on supplies.

Flour: If you’re looking for a gluten-free version, swap out the Bisquick mix with a gluten-free baking mix. Almond flour also lends a nutty flavor and texture in place of all-purpose flour.

Fruit and Nuts: Customize your coffee cake filling by swapping out raisins or cranberries with chopped pecans or walnuts in the cinnamon streusel. You can also mix up your fruit options by adding some diced apples or pears.

Sugar: For a darker, caramel-like taste, swap out white sugar with brown sugar in the cinnamon-streusel filling or add a tablespoon of molasses for earthy sweetness.

Butter: Make this recipe vegan-friendly by substituting butter with coconut oil or vegetable shortening.

Sour Cream: Make this recipe lactose-free by using an alternative sour cream like Tofutti or almond milk yogurt.

Bundt Pan: Don’t have a 9-inch round pan? No worries. You can use an 8-inch square pan instead or try making this recipe even fancier by using a bundt pan!

Pancake Mix: Sometimes I like to make this coffee cake recipe even easier by swapping out Bisquick with pancake mix. Just make sure it’s unflavored and unsweetened, like Aunt Jemima Original Pancake & Waffle Mix.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to making substitutions and variations in baking recipes. Use what you have on hand, what’s in season, and let your creativity lead the way!

The perfect Bisquick crumb topping is the cherry on top of the coffee cake.

Ah, the aroma of freshly baked Deluxe Bisquick Sour Cream Coffee Cake, coming straight out of the oven, can make anyone’s mouth water. But creating a perfect cake that is moist and delicately flavored with cinnamon and sugar, with a crunchy topping of walnuts or pecans, can be a challenging task.

Here are some tips to help you achieve the perfect results every time you bake this delicious cake:

1. Use high-quality ingredients: Investing in good quality ingredients will make a significant difference in the taste and texture of your coffee cake. Use fresh eggs, pure butter instead of margarine, and high-quality Bisquick mix.

2. Measure accurately: Measuring ingredients accurately is crucial when baking. Make sure you use the correct measuring cups and spoons for each ingredient and level off every measurement to avoid adding too much or too little of any ingredient.

3. Preheat the oven properly: Always preheat your oven to the right temperature before starting to bake to ensure that your coffee cake bakes evenly.

4. Mix ingredients carefully: Do not overmix or undermix the batter; follow instructions carefully. Overmixing can result in a dense, hard cake, while undermixing can cause uneven distribution of ingredients.

5. Do not open the oven door: Resist peeking inside the oven while your cake is baking since opening the door can cause uneven baking and may even collapse your cake.

6. Test doneness correctly: Using a toothpick or a knife inserted into the center of your cake, check if it comes out clean after baking to be sure that it is cooked through evenly.

7. Cool cakes inverted: Once out of the oven, cool cakes on a rack for ten minutes before sliding them out onto another cooling rack or plate so that they do not get sweaty on the bottom from residual heat.

Lastly, try experimenting with different variations using substitutions such as cranberries or raisins instead of walnuts or pecans for topping according to your taste preferences!

By following these tips closely, you are sure to make a perfect Deluxe Bisquick Sour Cream Coffee Cake every single time!
