  • 1/2 cup milk foam
  • 1/2 cup milk froth
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup (optional)
  • Cocoa powder to sprinkle on top

The ingredients for this recipe can easily be found at any grocery store, and it only takes a few simple ingredients to make a delicious Latte Macchiato at home. The Recipe How-To

Now, let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of creating a delicious Latte Macchiato. Follow these simple steps carefully to achieve the perfect 3-layered coffee recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons Instant Espresso Coffee Powder (heaped)
  • 1 cup Fresh Milk
  • Milk Froth/Milk Foam
  • Optional: Caramel sauce for drizzle on top

Step 1: Prepare espresso

Brew three shots of espresso using your Nespresso machine. If you don’t have one, you can use any other method you prefer to make espresso.

Step 2: Froth milk

While your espresso is brewing, froth the milk using a milk frother or steam wand from your espresso machine. It is essential to ensure the milk is smooth and without bubbles.

Step 3: Layering ingredients

Pour the prepared espresso into a tall glass, then add 1/3 cup of frothed milk on top of it slowly. This added milk should form the second layer to give you that distinct three-layered coffee look. Finally, spoon a generous amount of milk foam/milk froth on top, forming the final layer.

Step 4: Garnish and Serve

You can now dress-up your latte macchiato with a drizzle of caramel sauce or any other sweet topping of your preference. Finally, it’s time to sit down, enjoy your hard work and take a sip of this caffeine masterpiece you created.

Et voila! You now know how to prepare this amazing Latte Macchiato from scratch in the comfort of your own home.

Substitutions and Variations

Looking for some ways to mix up your latte macchiato recipe? Fear not, my coffee-loving friend – I have some suggestions for substitutions and variations that will take your three-layered coffee game to the next level.

First, let’s talk about the milk. While fresh milk is preferred for this recipe, you can also use plant-based milk like soy, almond, or oat. Just keep in mind that different types of milk froth differently, so you may need to adjust your technique or equipment accordingly. For example, oat milk tends to froth better with a bit of added fat like coconut cream or almond butter.

If you want to switch up the flavor of your latte macchiato, there are endless possibilities. One option is to add a flavored syrup – vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, and mocha are all popular choices. Another option is to sprinkle some cocoa powder or cinnamon on top of the foam for a subtle but delicious variation.

For those who like their coffee on the stronger side, try using a double shot of espresso instead of a single. Similarly, if you prefer a lighter brew, use less instant espresso coffee powder when preparing the shot.

Finally, consider experimenting with the order of layers or the equipment used to make the latte macchiato. For example, you could try adding the frothed milk first and then pouring in the shot of espresso over it for a twist on the traditional layered look. Or if you don’t have an espresso machine or milk frother at home, don’t despair – a French press or handheld milk frother can work in a pinch.

With these substitutions and variations, you’ll be able to customize your latte macchiato recipe to suit your unique taste preferences and equipment availability. So go ahead and get creative – who knows what delicious concoction you might come up with!

Serving and Pairing

When it comes to serving and pairing your freshly made latte macchiato, there are a number of options available to you that will satisfy your sweet tooth and complement the coffee’s flavor nicely.

First and foremost, you can opt to enjoy your latte macchiato in a clear glass so that you can admire the beautiful three layers of milk, espresso, and foam. This three-layered coffee recipe is undoubtedly an eye-catching addition to any brunch table, making it ideal for entertaining guests.

If you’re serving multiple lattes, consider placing them on a platter or tray with your favorite sweet treats like croissants or biscuits. Your guests will appreciate having something to nibble on while they sip on their lattes.

As for pairing, there’s something about the sweet flavor and creamy texture of latte macchiato that pairs well with flaky pastries, muffins, or scones. Additionally, fresh fruit like berries or sliced apples offer a refreshing accompaniment if you’re looking for something lighter.

For those looking for something more decadent, consider adding some caramel or chocolate sauce drizzle over the top of your latte macchiato. That rich coffee taste combined with smooth caramel or chocolate steamed milk creates the perfect combination for a tasty indulgence.

Overall, whether enjoyed as-is or paired with a delicious pastry or dessert, Latte Macchiato is an excellent choice for a special weekend treat or anytime you want some extra decadence in your cup.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

Looking to save some time in the morning but still enjoy a perfectly layered latte macchiato? You can certainly make the milk froth and foam in advance, store it in an airtight container, and reheat it when you are ready to create your macchiato masterpiece.

The taste will be slightly different from freshly prepared milk froth, but the texture should still be fluffy and velvety. To reheat, simply pop the container into the microwave for 10-15 seconds, until the froth is warmed through.

Alternatively, if you have a milk frother with a temperature setting or an espresso machine with a steam wand, you can prepare the milk ahead of time and store it in a pitcher. When you are ready to make your latte macchiato, just add the hot espresso shot and spoon on the foam layer.

If you find that you have extra milk foam or espresso shots left over from previous preparations, they can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. However, it’s important not to store any components of the macchiato together for too long, as their layers may start to blend and lose their distinctive look.

And there you have it – tips and tricks for preparing and storing your latte macchiato components to enjoy whenever you need a caffeine boost.

Latte Macchiato – 3 Layered Coffee Recipe

Sitting in a sunny street cafe, watching people passing by and sipping a good mug of coffee – do you like it as much as I do? Last summer I couldn’t get enough of Latte Macchiato (blotchy milk), a wonderful milk coffee from Italy which is very popular in Europe right now. As it is very expensive in the street cafe, I tried to prepare it at home and succeeded. It is no fuss to make if you follow the instructions. Most important for the layered look is to pour the espresso slowly into the foamy milk. Make sure to use heavy glasses which won’t break when filling in the hot liquids. Enjoy the summer feeling!

  • 2 cups milk (no fat-reduced product)
  • 3 tablespoons instant espresso coffee powder, heaped
  1. Heat milk in the microwave or in a saucepan over medium-high heat (do not boil).
  2. In the meantime prepare instant espresso according to package direction.
  3. As soon as the milk is hot give it into a blender or food processor and blend on high for 40 seconds or until the milk has a velvety milk foam.
  4. Fill glasses up to 2/3 with milk foam.
  5. Now pour hot espresso VERY SLOWLY into the foam, I suggest to pour it from the rim.
  6. If you like, you can turn a spoon around and pour the espresso slowly over its back side.
  7. After 1 minute the drink will divide in 3 layers which is very nice!
